The Other Side of Success episode 007
"I wouldn't be where I am today without this failure."
Failure is a Teacher
In this episode, Tash Durkins, a federal government executive, author, and coach, shares her insights on the relationship with failure. Drawing inspiration from Brené Brown, Tash discusses how her perspective on failure has evolved over the years. She emphasizes the importance of embracing failure as a part of personal and professional growth, rather than avoiding it at all costs.
Tash recounts a pivotal moment early in her executive career at the FAA, and reflects on how her understanding of failure has shaped her approach to challenges today. Join us for an enlightening conversation about the value of resilience and the lessons learned from setbacks.
Right when I thought I was making progress, I get a phone call from one of my peers telling me, 'the project is being taken away from you. You will no longer lead it because you failed.'
Moving Forward with Accountability, Authenticity and Connection
Tash's willingness to take accountability for her failure played a crucial role in her continued success. Rather than making excuses or hiding from the situation, she owned her mistakes and communicated transparently with her superiors. This approach not only helped her maintain her position but also led to her promotion within a year. Tash attributes her success to her commitment to accountability and her ability to learn from her experiences.
